The NHA is excited to welcome award-winning author and editor John Mitchell to Nantucket for a special lecture exploring the interrelationship between a strong sense of place and landscape preservation.

Mitchell is author of the Scratch Flat Chronicles, a series of five books detailing his incredible 40-year journey to restore and revitalize a single square mile of land in eastern Massachusetts. During his time on the land and in his books, Mitchell explores issues of time, place, and the endurance of the natural world. He is also the editor of the award-winning Sanctuary magazine, published by the Massachusetts Audubon Society, and, in 2000, was presented with the New England Booksellers’ Award in recognition of his exceptional body of work.
