Native Stories, New Approaches Symposium
FREE & Open to the Public
Location: Whaling Museum, 15 Broad Street
Coinciding with Native American Heritage Month, the NHA will host the symposium Native Stories, New Approaches: Re-presenting Indigenous Communities and Collections.
This program brings together four participants to discuss the complex and sensitive relationship between indigenous peoples and museums. Speakers will share examples of new approaches to indigenous collections care and highlight new ways of thinking about how indigenous history is collected, interpreted, and presented in museum settings. As the NHA continues to work to expand the presence and representation of Wampanoag history in its public offerings, this symposium explores the creative approaches and partnerships that sister institutions have recently used to present indigenous history in their galleries.
